Matthew T. Vocci

Matthew T. Vocci is a principal in Ober|Kaler's Litigation Group. Matt works on all aspects of civil litigation and he has gained a wide range of experience in commercial real estate disputes, construction defect cases, the defense of lender liability claims and the representation of individuals in personal injury matters. Matt is also part of a team of attorneys involved in the defense of complex pharmaceutical pricing suits pending in state and federal courts around the country.

As part of his litigation practice, Matt also represents creditors in their effort to procure judgments after loan defaults and assists clients with enforcement of judgments to facilitate the recovery of funds.

Matt has served on the trial team for two recent, significant cases. Along with the chair of Ober|Kaler's Personal Injury group, Matt represented Dominic Solesky, a 10-year-old boy who was seriously mauled in a pit bull attack. The case, which sparked widespread debate, resulted in a ruling by the Court of Appeals of Maryland that owners of pit bulls, or pit bull mixes, and their landlords are strictly liable for damages resulting from the dog’s attack.

Matt was also integral to the presentation of a plaintiff's case at a week-long arbitration relating to a condominium board's failure to maintain and repair the common elements of a high-rise building in Baltimore. The arbitration panel consisted of three retired Maryland judges. The trial team represented a unit owner that suffered significant damages stemming from water infiltration into a penthouse condominium unit. This case resulted in what is believed to be Maryland's largest judgment against a condominium board for failure to maintain and repair common elements resulting in damages to a single unit owner.

In every matter, Matt believes in engaging himself fully to promote each client’s interests. Being a trial litigator, he welcomes the opportunity to be in the courtroom – whether arguing a legal point at a hearing or presenting evidence at trial.

Along with his Baltimore law practice, Matt has made a commitment to serve the community. He served on the Board of Directors of Students Sharing Coalition, Inc., a youth development non-profit organization in Baltimore focusing on service-learning and civic engagement. Matt also served as a mentor to students at the Steuart Hill Academy in Southwest Baltimore.
