Nonphysician Providers

Ober|Kaler offers nonphysician clients legal counsel that reflects our deep knowledge of the functions, regulations and reimbursement procedures that affect their practices.

We represent many nonphysician practitioners, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, nurses, physical therapists, mental health professionals, social workers and others. We also count among our clients professional associations and organizations that serve these providers.

Our attorneys help clients with issues related to:

  • Scope of practice
  • Reimbursement from Medicare and other payors
  • Contractual relationships with medical groups and health care facilities
  • Independent practice opportunities
  • Licensing and certification
  • Credentialing
  • Professional discipline and reporting
  • Provider enrollment

We also assist in the development of professional practices as well as multidisciplinary practices where permitted under applicable law. In addition, Ober|Kaler has significant experience and background in advising hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other health care providers on how to contract with – and appropriately gain reimbursement for – nonphysician practitioner services.

Our attorneys include a physical therapist as well as a member of the Advisory Board to the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Social Work.
