Proposed Rule Governing Medicare Payment for Clinical Psychology Training Programs

Medicare payment for clinical psychology training programs may soon be made on a reasonable cost basis, in accordance with certain provisions of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. On January 12, the Health Care Financing Administration published in the Federal Register a proposed rule "clarifying the rules governing allowable costs of approved educational activities and when those costs are eligible for pass-through [payments] under the hospital inpatient prospective payment system, including the relationship required between an approved nursing or allied health education program and a hospital for the program's costs to be eligible for pass-through."
