From the Chair

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Nonprofits Legal Update, a publication by Ober|Kaler's Nonprofits Practice Group. Throughout our 100 plus year history, we have been serving the legal needs of the nonprofit community. Recently, we formally established the Nonprofits Practice Group to bring together under a single umbrella the complete spectrum of legal talent needed to address the numerous, interrelated legal challenges facing today’s nonprofit entities. With this issue, we discuss participation in election campaigns, the antitrust issues surrounding membership surveys, and strategies for dealing with Social Security mismatch letters. Future newsletters — published as events dictate — will deal with topics such as corporate governance, tax exemption, benefits, immigration, intellectual property, employment and compensation, and more.
