Ober|Kaler Admiralty Lawyers Selected for International Who's Who

 
 

BALTIMORE MD – July 17, 2009 Baltimore-based law firm Ober|Kaler announced today that three of its admiralty attorneys — Geoffrey S. Tobias, Donald C. Greenman and M. Hamilton Whitman, Jr. — have been selected for inclusion in The International Who's Who of Shipping & Maritime Lawyers 2009.

Published by Law Business Research Ltd, an independent London-based publishing group, The International Who's Who identifies and catalogs the world's foremost legal practitioners in thirty-one areas of business law. Selections are made on the basis of peer nominations and comprehensive research, including input from private practice attorneys and in-house counsel.

Messers Tobias, Greenman and Whitman are principals in Ober|Kaler's Admiralty & Maritime Group. Collectively, they have over 100 years of experience in shipping and maritime law.

Geoffrey S. Tobias, Ober|KalerGeoffrey S. Tobias has practiced for more than thirty years in the areas of general admiralty and maritime law, representing shipowners, as well as utilities, marine suppliers, and domestic towing and dredging companies. He was listed in Maryland Super Lawyers, Transportation/Maritime category in 2008-2009, and he's appeared in The Best Lawyers in America, Maritime Law and Immigration categories since 2005. Active in numerous maritime and legal organizations, Mr. Tobias served on the Governor's Advisory Committee for the Port of Baltimore and is on the board of Sail Baltimore. He's a member of the Maritime Law Association, the Baltimore Port Alliance and the Tupenny Club of Baltimore. He's also a member of the Maryland State Bar Association. Mr. Tobias is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1974) and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (B.S., 1969).

Donald C. Greenman, Ober|KalerDonald C. Greenman has practiced maritime law for over forty years, representing vessel owners and other shipping clients in a wide range of matters. Mr. Greenman has appeared in the Best Lawyers in America, Maritime category, since 1989. Since 1993, he's served as Editor of American Maritime Cases. He's active in the Maritime Law Association of the United States, where he's served as chair of three substantive law committees and on the Board of Directors. He's also an active member of the Maritime Administrative Bar Association, as well as the American, Baltimore City and Maryland State Bar Associations. Mr. Greenman is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, (L.L.B., 1968) and the United States Coast Guard Academy (B.S., with high honors, 1960).

M. Hamilton Whitman, Jr., Ober|KalerM. Hamilton Whitman, Jr. is past chair of Ober|Kaler's Admiralty & Maritime Group. For over thirty years, he's represented maritime business and individual clients in all manner of casualty and commercial matters. In 2007, he was selected for the Expert Guides to the Leading Lawyers — Best of the Best USA in the Shipping category. He also appeared in Maryland Super Lawyers for General Litigation in 2007 and for Transportation/Maritime in 2008-2009. He's been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1989. Mr. Whitman serves on the Advisory Board of Historic Ships in Baltimore and the National Advisory Board of the Maritime Arbitration Association of the United States, and he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Living Classrooms Foundation. He's a past board member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and past treasurer of the Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Baltimore. Mr. Whitman is also active in the American, Baltimore City and Maryland State Bar Associations, and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Whitman served in the United States Navy, leaving active duty in 1973 as a Lieutenant, Qualified in Submarines. He holds degrees from the University of Virginia School of Law (J.D., 1976) and Princeton University (A.B., with honors, 1969).
