  Experience  

An associate in the firm's Health Law Group, Kristin represents and provides advice to physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories and other providers regarding fraud and abuse issues, regulatory and licensure issues, corporate compliance, managed care reimbursement and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement issues. A substantial portion of Kristin's practice involves advising clients on federal and state fraud and abuse laws and regulatory compliance issues.

Kristin also has extensive knowledge and experience dealing with issues relating to the Maryland Health Care Decisions Act, including providing advice to physicians and other providers with respect to health care decision-making for patients based on written and oral advance directives, living wills, surrogate decision-making and/or court-appointed guardianship. Kristin assisted with the creation of, and helps maintain, the Maryland Health Care Decision Making Website, which is a collaborative website provided by the Maryland Attorney General's Office and Ober|Kaler that is designed to be resource for health care professionals, containing references, tools, forms and guidelines to facilitate end-of-life care and other decisions in compliance with the Maryland Health Care Decisions Act.

Counsel to several hospitals that obtained a favorable reconsideration from CMS of funds wrongly denied under the Reporting Hospital Quality Data for Annual Payment Update Program (RHQDAPU) program, recovering over $2 million collectively for the providers

Health care regulatory compliance counsel in connection with the acquisition of a regional long-term care pharmacy chain

Health care regulatory counsel to a number of clients regarding issues relating to charges to the Medicaid program

Defense counsel in connection with qui tam action filed relating to billing for physician services
